Pressure Housing Solutions for Acoustic Fish Deterrent System

April 2026

We have been working with Fishtek Marine to support the development of pressure housing solutions for their Acoustic Fish Deterrent (AFD) system deployed at Hinkley Point C.

The AFD system is designed to reduce fish endangerment at cooling water intakes by emitting targeted acoustic signals that encourage fish to move away from sensitive areas. This requires reliable subsea hardware capable of operating continuously in challenging marine environments, where pressure resistance, long-term sealing integrity and protection of sensitive electronics are critical.

OceanTools designed and supplied custom subsea pressure housings to support Fishtek Marine's deployed equipment and system monitoring requirements during offshore trials. The housings were engineered to maintain performance integrity under pressure while enabling integration with the wider acoustic and control system architecture. A video published by EDF Energy highlights the system in operation and features members of the Fishtek Marine team discussing the deployment:

Working closely with the Fishtek Marine team, the solution supported successful trial operations and real-world validation of system performance in situ. The project is now progressing into further development phases, with additional system requirements under discussion as the technology evolves.

This collaboration demonstrates OceanTools ability to work closely with specialist technology partners to deliver robust subsea housing solutions that support real-world environmental monitoring and mitigation systems.

New product Launch: L4 subsea LED light

March 2026

We are pleased to announce the launch of the OceanTools L4, a compact subsea flood lamp delivering up to 10,000 lumens of high-quality illumination from a 4000m depth-rated package.

Designed for ROV, AUV and subsea inspection applications, the L4 utilises high-density LED technology to produce a wide-angle flood beam with 80 CRI colour accuracy and 6500K colour temperature, ensuring clear and natural underwater visibility. Delivering the same impressive brightness as the L5 light but in a smaller, compact form factor, the L4 is ideal where space and weight are critical considerations. The L4 also offers fully software-configurable control, including RS232, RS485 and analogue dimming, along with advanced features such as gamma mapping, programmable intensity settings and built-in thermal protection.

Key features:

  • Up to 10,000 lumen output

  • Compact design with powerful illumination

  • Flicker-free dimming via RS232, RS485 or analogue control

  • Fully configurable light intensity and control settings

  • Robust 4000m depth-rated design

  • Field-serviceable with screw terminals and solderless assembly

From space to the deepest ocean trenches

January 2026

We are proud to showcase two standout projects that highlight our engineering expertise and versatility. From designing subsea pressure housings for a well-known space technology company to creating solutions for the world’s deepest oceans, our housings deliver reliability and resilience in the most extreme environments.

A major U.S. space technology company approached OceanTools with detailed specifications, and we designed and built a highly intricate pressure vessel to meet their requirements. Made from Grade 5 Titanium, it measures 520mm in diameter, around a metre in length, and weighs nearly 400kg. The project demonstrates the confidence that industry leaders place in OceanTools for precision-critical applications.

Kevin Parker, Managing Director of OceanTools, said:

“We’re proud to support companies at the forefront of space technology. This project is a great example of how our precision-engineered pressure vessels are trusted by industries that demand robust, reliable engineering solutions.”

Our pressure housings are also being deployed to the Mariana Trench, the deepest part of the world’s oceans. At over 10,000 metres below sea level, the trench represents one of the most extreme environments on Earth. Designed to withstand immense underwater pressures, these housings support deep-sea exploration and research in one of the planet’s most challenging environments.

Together, these projects highlight our ability to engineer solutions across vastly different subsea pressure regimes. From large housings operating at moderate depths to compact units designed for full ocean depth, OceanTools applies materials, precision engineering and proven manufacturing expertise to meet the specific demands of each application.
