Depth Activated Video Equipment

The OceanTools Special Project Engineering Group has many years of experience designing a wide range of technologies for use in harsh subsea environments. With a team of engineers experienced in electrical, electronic, software, mechanical and hydraulic engineering we are keen to listen to client requirements and deliver integrated or bespoke solutions.

The Depth Activated Video Equipment (DAVE) system is one such solution, combining several high quality OceanTools video products in a single integrated package with a 6000m depth rating:

  • C4-10 Subsea HD IP camera

  • L5 Versatile subsea LED light

  • OceanCELL-12 Rechargeable subsea battery pack

The concept is simple: programmable switching electronics are used to turn on power to the subsea camera and light(s) at a specific depth, and off again when a second depth is reached. This extends battery life considerably in deepwater operations including scientific research, mineral mining and oil & gas exploration.

At the heart of the system is our best-selling C4-10 HD IP camera, augmented with internal video recording. Depending on the framerate and SD card fitted, up to a week of HD video can be recorded by the camera. Video may be retrieved from the camera without having to open it.

In addition to the camera, the package may contain one or two L5 Professional subsea LED lights and OceanCELL rechargeable battery packs.

If a single L5 light is used - generating around 5000 Lumens - then the overall system current drain is around 1.5A, with an operational duration of around 8 hours. If a second OceanCELL is connected in parallel the duration increases to around 16 hours. If two L5 lights are used with a single OceanCELL then the operational duration will be somewhere around 5 hours. And if two L5 lights are used with two OceanCELL packs connected in parallel the duration will be up to 10 hours.
